Last week, I shared some information about Super Bowl Village as a fun option for both locals and visitors to enjoy the Super Bowl 46 atmosphere. But if quiet contemplation and creative artistry is a little bit more your speed, then let me suggest taking in the sites of 46 for XLVI, a public art project on display throughout the city.
This is a partnership between the City of Indianapolis and the Arts Council of Indianapolis to showcase the cultural vibrancy of the city. Both local and national artists have created 46 murals that don walls around the city, from Speedway to Broad Ripple to South and Capitol. A map marking the locations of all 46 murals is available here.
My Affair with Kurt Vonnegut by Pamela Bliss
More than 100 artists from around the country competed for the 46 slots. Some of Indys best, like Kyle Ragsdale and Artur Silva, have murals featured in this project. And much of the art itself has a local twist, like Pamela Blisss My Affair with Kurt Vonnegut at 345 Mass Ave. This portrait of the Indianapolis-native author welcomes visitors to the Mass Ave Cultural District.
These larger-than-life murals will benefit the city for years to come, long after the final seconds tick off the clock at Lucas Oil Stadium on February 5, 2012.
